1857 Flying Eagle Cent, PCGS MS-63. In our opinion, this is a Gem BU example; much better than the PCGS grade suggests.

Flying Eagle Cent, Choice Almost Uncirculated. Well struck and original,
an original AU/Unc "slider" that saw minimal if any real circulation,
being put aside almost immediately after release as a souvenir of the new Type.
This came out of an old non-numismatic accumulation, and shows the minor
effects of less than ideal storage, in terms of surface color. The early
Copper-Nickel Flying Eagle and Indian Cents were very subject to staining or
odd toning due to their composition. Minor rim damage below the date would
likely not show once placed into an album page. Of possible interest is an
obvious, significant die gouge in the Eagle's left wing (enlargement
shown). This also appears to have had a missing wing tip retouched
manually, similar to Snow 15, however the other details do not match that
variety. A possible new discovery, something for the interested observer
to ponder. Otherwise, certainly a more than adequate, high grade example
to represent the Type.
